Elbow Update: I've been staying home because the waves were small and wanted to give my elbow a rest.
My elbow was doing great until Sunday when it got a little swollen and painful. Dr. Perreria wasn't available but I saw another doc who didn't think it was infected but gave me antibiotics, just in case it did get infected. It's gotten better since Sunday and the incision is healing nicely. Just being patient and optimistic I can get in the water by next Tuesday, which makes 3 weeks since the surgery.
I hope you guys catching some good waves for me.
Nothing like getting fresh air, the smell of the ocean breeze, seeing the birds fly by and the sun rise!

I'm happy to report that the surgery went well and I'm feeling good!
Dr. Perreria met with me after the surgery and explained that everything went smoothly there were no complications. The surgery was done in about 1/2 hour.
I'm super happy that Dr. Perreria's Post Surgery Instructions say 'Try to wean out of your sling as soon as possible to move your elbow gently' also 'You may resume light activities as soon as tolerated'. That contradicts my expectation of living with my Right elbow in a sling for most of 2 weeks. That makes it possible to use my Right arm at times, that makes it way easier to put my contact lenses in and floss my teeth.
Overall I have some elbow pain but not as bad as I thought.

Gotta keep the Ace Bandage on for 5 days. Looks puffy but that's plenty gauze over the incision area,
Today I go for my elbow surgery.
From about the beginning of the year the last two fingers on my right hand had occasional numbness and tingling. After visits to a hand/arm specialist and some tests, it was determined I have Cubital Tunnel Syndrome aka Ulnar Nerve Entrapment. This basically means the ulnar nerve in my right elbow is being pinched, which results in the tingling, just like when you hit your 'funny bone'.
The surgery is will free the nerve from being pinched.
I'll have to keep my right arm in a sling in a bent position for maybe up to two weeks. This means no surfing for about two weeks, hopefully not much longer. The challenge will be to function with only my left hand. I've been practicing to drink coffee with my left hand, brush my teeth left hand and eat left handed. Now I'm not sure how I will put contacts in my eye left hand or floss my teeth left hand or use the bathroom left hand but I know I'll figure it out.
Let's see if I can take a picture left hand and type left hand to provide blog updates on my struggles.
Time to give this board a rest until I'm ready.

Waikiki will always be a special place for me.
This is where my Father taught me to surf. We started riding styrofoam boards from Longs at The Wall. Then my Dad made my first real surfboard from the surfboard kit from Rich Parr. He would take me to Canoes to catch waves three times a week when I was in elementary school. I can now really appreciate the time he took to make the surfboard and to take me to the beach.

I was a little shaky but it felt great to be in the water and catching some waves!
I was still positive yesterday with a faint line.
Since I'm close to getting over this virus, I hit the water. I am still staying clear of crowds indoors for this weekend, to be safe.
