Another good weekend in the books.
Saturday was Grandpa's birthday and he chose Prince Court to celebrate.
Grandpa likes the Prime Rib and I do too but I also like the Seafood.... Oysters, Crab, Sushi, Scallops, Shrimp.
Sunday morning Dawn and I went to the beach to meet Tony and I threw out a pole while we played in the sand.

Sunday afternoon we were lucky to get a slot in Jalna's busy schedule for a photo shoot.
Jalna selected the East West Center. It's a awesomely beautiful place! Boy, UH sure changed since those 'few' years have passed since Dora and I were there.
We took family shots and some of Dawn solo - I can't wait to see the results!!! Jalna is a great photographer!

We were expecting more small surf so when we paddled out to find some juicy head high West nuggets rolling we were STOKED!
But after the 2 sets were gone...... we were left waiting and waiting.

Slight bump from yesterday with cleaner conditions but fewer waves.
Sonny always gets the good waves - that's why he turns around to watch it.

Sunday morning I headed down to Waikiki.
They needed help judging so I agreed to help. It was fun to judge and watch the action from the judging tower. I also got to meet Reno Abellira who was also judging the contest. Reno was one of my surf heros from the 70's - he's cool!
Beautiful day in Waikiki.
The best division was the 'Bobby's Chair' division - where contestants have to surf with a chair on the board(just like Bobby Ah Choy did in the old days).
This guy had the full lounge chair.
Bruddah Lance Hookano was tearing it up!
They also had give-aways throughout the day. Anyone on the beach could enter to win Blazin' Steaks gift cards. There was a darkest tan contest, biggest feet contest, hairiest man contest, my favorite was the Michael Jackson dancing contest. This lady was doing the moon walk.
This guy tried his best.
But in the end it was a brother who took the win.
It was a fun two days with good music, good waves, good food(from Blazin' Steaks) and good fun all in honor of Pops Ah Choy and to raise money for Japan Relief.
I also did well getting 1st place in my 50-59 age division.
Thank you Pops Ah Choy Foundation and China Uemura for putting on an awesome contest. I'll be back next year. Also thank you Kepa and Blane Chambers for getting me the board hookup! Couldn't have done it without you!!!
It was a busy day yesterday!
I got down to Waikiki early to check what time I surf.
Was looking like a lake......
but there were some decent waves with clean conditions - good enough.
The opening ceremony was run by Mike Ah Choy honoring many of the beach boys. I found out my heat was scheduled for 3:20 so I left.
Got home and left for the Aina Haina Celebration.
All kine food, fun, games and prizes! They were even giving away a Stand-up surfboard!!!!
We always stop by to visit Uncle Clay at the House of Pure Aloha.
The best part of the celebraation was the performance by the World Famous Aina Haina Chorus. Here's Dawn with her BFF Gillian.
They were GREAT! The crowd was going wild(ok was just us parents).

I didn't win the surfboard but I did win these gift cards - SCORE!!!!
After the performance, I went back to Waikiki. John Cruz was playing at Aina Haina and now he was playing at the contest too - with Sista Roby and Jeff Rasmussen.
In this contest everybody surfs twice, then the top four move on to the finals. Turns out there's only 3 guys in the 50-59 division so we're already set to be in the finals. Was a fun heat knowing no body gets eliminated.
When I got home everybody was hungry so we hit Outback for dinner.
Dawn got her Mac-n-Cheese while Dora and I got salads. This Ahi salad is a winnah!

Tiny surf on this Aloha Friday.
I was bummed when I saw the crack in my paddle yesterday but I feel better now that I bought a new one and used it today!
Thank you Jamy for making a special trip to beach-deliver the paddle this morning!
What other surf shop will cut, glue and deliver your order? Paddle Surf Hawaii is da best!!!!!!

This weekend I'm entering the 'Pops' Ah Choy Surf Fest at Waikiki.
I think it's cool to honor the men who started Stand-up surfing AND raise money for disaster relief in Japan at the same time!!!!!!
