Happy Birthday Willie 07-30-2011

Saturday night we were invited to my friend Willie's 65th birthday party. Willie doesn't surf but is a very good friend of mine. Although I don't get to see him too much these days, when I do see him it's just like 'old times'. The party was in Kapolei and I was glad to take Exit 3 and drive down the new North-South road for the first time.

Beach Report 07-30-2011 & Mission Houses Museum

Dawn and I went to the beach early to check out Wes and Lau as they 'camped out' for the Dragon Boat Races today.

The surf was looking small but nice with the light winds.

They have new boats this year. They look faster and more streamlined but where's the Dragon Head?

Dawn said the cloud looks like a dragon too!

We don't just surf, we get culture-fied too!  Today we went on the Tour at the Mission Houses Museum in beautiful downtown Kakaako.

 

 
First things first - lunch.     Not just any lunch - Tea Service Lunch.

 

 
You get to choose from a large seletion of fancy teas.  Here I am demonstrating proper technique.

To compliment the Tea you get a variety of Tea sandwiches.  Salmon, Egg and Cream Cheese and Cucumber.

 

 
Along with the sandwiches they give you an array of homemade desserts.

 

 
The Tea Service was a great experience but damn I was still hungry - good thing had a Subway near by. Leighton and I went for a 6 inch sub.

 

 
After Subway we went on the Tour. Mike was an excellent tour guide.

Dawn and Aily had fun running around and playing.

 

 
Lunch was good and the Tour was REALLY interesting and informative. There's so much history that I never knew. I was glad I went and even Dawn was interested and was eagerly listening to the guide. This flower is the night blooming something-or-other-that-looked-cool.

Surf Report 07-25-2011 & China's Contest

A good fun Monday morning with lots of waves and great conditions!

I got home late from the contest yesterday and was tired and hungry and too lazy to post.

Sunday morning we went to China's contest again.

 
Lau and I went surf Canoes then Pops - it was a relaxing paddle and good surf session. On the way back I took this pic because I like the Royal Hawaiian Hotel - it's classic Waikiki.

 

 
On the way in I said to myself 'Ho it's packed - be CAREFUL'.  I just wanted to catch one in but I fell and somehow got banged!

 

 
Besides regular longboard heats they had the 'Vintage' division - gotta be old boards!

China's Contest 07-23-2011

Today is the amateur Longboard divisions at China's contest. Wes, Reimi, Lau, Lei and myself got there early again.

I had my first heat at 10am and I advanced. My next heat was at 3:30pm where I somehow got first which means I go straight to the finals tomorrow!!!!!

Surf Report 07-22-2011 & China's Contest

Waves: 1 - 2 feet

Wind: Moderate Trades

Some decent wind-swell kine waves with more wind than yesterday. I took out my 10-0 this morning to get the feel of it so I can use it this weekend at China's contest.

This weekend they'll run all the amateur longboard heats. Today they'll finish up the Pro Longboard and SUP heats.

Too bad I have to work today otherwise I'll be surfing again.

Good luck to Wes who has a good chance to make it to the finals!!!!
